Donnie Darko
By Richard Kelly
It had been a couple of years since I’d watched the Director’s Cut of Donnie Darko, and I’ve got to say, this is still one of the best films for it’s genre that I’ve ever seen. I think what makes this film so successful is that it isn’t trying to be anything outside it’s own universe. The rules it follows are it’s own and wonderful. It’s part sci-fi, part indie love story, part psychological suspense, while still being something that’s none of those things. For a debut film, it holds up very well with only a few small criticisms I can think of.
